Exploring the remote areas of Africa often results in hours spent on dangerous and unnavigable roads. Skyhorse Aviation™ offers specialised charter throughout Africa reducing travel time and exposure to risky situations. Skyhorse Aviation™ performs site inspections, ad hoc emergency evacuation, executive transport, camp transfers and logistical support. Inter country overflight permissions and certificates are handled internally, ensuring a safe and trouble-free trip with a no-compromise attitude towards safety.

In remote areas it is cost effective to move drill rigs and other large geological gear by helicopter. Access is often difficult by road, and security concerns and inclement weather can hamper conventional drilling programs causing costly down time. The environmental effects of drilling programs are significantly minimised by a helicopter-supported project. The associated rehabilitation costs are far less than with conventional drilling programs, and this is a major advantage.

The AS350B2 and AS350B3 helicopters are increasingly being utilised for the heavy sling work associated with drilling programs. Conventional drill rigs can be adapted to break into 650 kg sections. These sections and the associated drilling gear are moved using specially adapted harnesses and nets. A typical rig move can be done in under 3 hours.

All helicopters are fitted with vertical reference windows, mirrors, and cargo hooks. The load on the sling can be monitored by a digital gauge in the cabin to ensure safe operation. VHF radios are used to ensure constant communication with the pilot and ground crew.

The pilots flying underslung operations all have valid sling ratings and have the experience and knowledge required to handle the complexities of slinging in remote environments.

The company specialises in the supply of helicopters specially modified for geophysical and geological surveys. Ancillary equipment such as radar altimeters, GPS receivers, and flight following systems are standard on all survey aircraft. Cargo hooks, mirrors, and a vertical reference window are used for underslung survey.

Specially designed and SACAA approved carbon fibre booms are fitted for the NRG XPlorer™ system. www.airbornegeophysics.com

The AS350 is ideal for the close terrain following required for geophysical surveys. The unique Starflex rotor system and ample power ensure that even the most stringent survey specifications are maintained. Collectively, our pilots have over 20 000 hours survey experience ensuring that surveys are completed in a safe, professional, and timely manner. All helicopters are fitted with custom-made, long-range fuel tanks.

The Pilatus PC-6 aircraft is renowned for its ability to fly slowly. To compliment the slow survey speed, the aircraft has been fitted with long-range fuel tanks markedly improving the aircraft’s endurance. The aircraft's ability to operate from extremely short bush airstrips, and its exceptional safety record make it the ideal platform for survey in remote locations.
